The first railroad in Seattle began in Georgetown. Citizens of the city knew they would have to have effective transportation in order to thrive. On May 1st, 1874 construction started and provided jobs to nearly 300 people. As more railroads were continued to be built in Seattle over the following years, they all passed through Georgetown. Railroading quickly became one of Georgetown’s biggest source of jobs second to only breweries.
